HMLS Community
At Hunter McGuire, your child will be part of a caring and nurturing community from his or her first day at school. Our family atmosphere—so well illustrated through our family-style lunch—and our strong sense of community are two of our most distinctive characteristics.
- “My husband and I sent both our children to Hunter McGuire, and they both got an excellent academic education here. But even more important to us was the close-knit, family-like community Hunter McGuire offers. Everyone knew and loved our children, and it was so reassuring to know that we had this whole team of professionals in our corner, helping our kids grow into intelligent, respectful adults.”
- Katie McConnel, past Hunter McGuire parent
Students, parents, teachers, and faculty develop strong bonds at Hunter McGuire. This parent-school partnership is an essential part of every aspect of school life. Visit HMLS and you’ll find parents helping in the technology lab, volunteering in the classroom, supervising at the lunch table, and coaching in the field or on the court. This sense of connection creates the unique culture of our school. It’s why children feel so at home here.
These are just some of the family-oriented activities and events that occur throughout the year:
- Bi-weekly assemblies, providing students with a chance to take the stage and share class work with friends and family
- Science Fair, showcasing each child’s use of the scientific method of experimentation
- Art Show, exhibiting each child’s work created in the style of the masters
- Family picnic at the beginning of the year
- Field day, featuring good-natured competition between the Alligators and the Polar Bears, two long-standing HMLS teams

- Holiday Program and Spring Sing, providing a chance for all HMLS students to showcase their musical abilities
- Grandparents’ Day, featuring a special program and activities for grandparents and their HMLS grandchildren
- Fifth grade commencement, providing an opportunity for each student to deliver a farewell speech and celebrate with the entire community
In addition, all HMLS families are members of the Stuart Hall Parents’ Association. Organized and run by parent volunteers, the Parents’ Association promotes communication between parents, teachers, faculty, and students, and plans a number of fund-raising and community events each year.
